NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Rutgers women’s tennis team wrapped up play at the first fall tournament of the season, Yale’s Bulldog Invitational, on Sunday afternoon. The team played doubles and singles against Boston University and Yale.
The Scarlet Knights ended the productive weekend with seven doubles and 12 singles wins in total.
Doubles
The Scarlet Knights started out hot, going 3-4 in doubles play.
The newcomer pair of Tara Chilton/Mai Nguyen earned their second win of the weekend over the Terriers, 6-4.
The duo of Chloe Brown/Daira Cardenas secured their third consecutive doubles win of the weekend over Boston College, 6-4. Amira Badawi/Jackeline Lopez also came out with a victory over Yale, 7-5.
Singles
RU kept the momentum going with five singles wins.
Jackeline Lopez led the pack with her third straight-set win of the weekend, defeating Boston College, 6-4, 6-1. The sophomore didn’t drop a single set throughout the three-day tournament.
“I think the whole team did great this weekend,” Lopez said. “We all fought hard, and we had great energy out there. I felt good out there physically, mentally, and tactically. I worked very hard this summer, and I think it showed this weekend. I hope this momentum can lead me into doing well at ITA Regionals.”
Badawi (6-3, 6-4) and Chloe Brown (2-6, 7-5, 10-8) picked up their second wins of the weekend over Boston University.
Chilton earned her first singles win at Rutgers against the Terriers, 6-4, 7-6 (4) while Minchae Kim also picked up a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-4.
