TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State, which has made five consecutive NCAA Championships appearances, has been selected as the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Region for the 2023 ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Seminoles are in one of 15 pods of four teams each in the national tournament, which will serve as the 2023 spring season opener around the nation. The Seminoles will face Arkansas in the first round of the tournament.
The 14th annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Weekend takes place January 27-30, 2023 at various facilities across the country. The regional winners advances to the 2023 ITA Indoor National Championships, in Seattle, Wash.
Florida State advanced to the round of 32 in the 2022 NCAA Championship tournament and finished the season ranked No. 33 by the ITA. Arkansas fell to UCLA in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the season ranked No. 34 by the ITA.
Stanford, which lost to No. 2 Oklahoma, 4-1, in the Elite Eight of the 2022 NCAA Championship Tournament, finished the 2022 season ranked No. 13 nationally. The Cardinal plays host to Kansas State, the No. 4 seed in the Stanford Region, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big XII Tournament.
After advancing to the Elite 8 of the 2021 NCAA Championship, the Seminoles hosted Florida, Florida International and Illinois in the 2022 ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Seminoles defeated Illinois before falling to the Gators in the regional final.
Florida State’s fall schedule for the entire 2022-23 fall and spring season will be released later this fall.
