MADISON, Wis. — Ava Markham was one of the best in the Big Ten this season, which was confirmed — unanimously — with her earning All-Big Ten honors on Thursday when the conference announced its 2021-22 Women’s Tennis All-Big Ten Awards.
It marked the second straight season in which Markham received All-Big Ten accolades, as the senior from Demarest, New Jersey was one of 14 student-athletes tabbed All-Big Ten. She was one of four to be considered a unanimous selection this year.
Markham led the Badgers to a 17-9 record (8-3 Big Ten) as a team this season. Individually, she posted an 18-7 record (7-4 B1G) in singles play while competing at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot for UW.
Alina Mukhortova was also recognized for the Badgers, earning the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The sophomore From Krasnodar, Russia, finished 17-7 (10-1 B1G) for UW this season, including a 15-5 mark at the No. 3 spot.
