Boilers Drop Big Ten Tournament Bout to Nebraska


IOWA CITY, IOWA – A day after playing a nearly five-hour match in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, the Purdue women’s tennis team saw its postseason run come to an end in a 4-0 loss to No. 55 Nebraska on Thursday in the second round.

The Boilermakers found themselves trailing after the doubles point, falling 6-1 at No. 1 and 6-3 at No. 2. Tara Katarina Milic and Juana Larranaga were even at 3-3 with Samantha Alicea and Chloe Kuckelman at No. 3 when play was halted.

Singles play saw Nebraska pick up straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 5, while Rut Galindo retired after taking the opening set 6-3.

Milic was battling back from a set down at No. 2 when play was halted. Larranaga just started her second set after taking the first 7-6(4) against Samantha Alicea at No. 4.

With the end of their first season in West Lafayette, the freshman trio of Juana Larranaga, Tara Katarina Milic and Carmen Gallardo Guevara combined to win 55 singles matches over the course of the fall and spring campaigns. Csilla Fodor ended her campaign with 29 singles victories, which tied for third in program history.
