TULSA, Okla. – Duke men’s tennis junior Sam Landau advanced to the singles main draw with the completion of the qualifying round at the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla.
Landau earned two wins in qualifying to advance out to the main draw. He defeated Jamie Connel of Florida State (6-3, 6-1) in the round of 64 before a 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory over Luciano Tacchi (Wake Forest) in the round of 32.
He will face Petar Jovanovic (Mississippi State) Wednesday in the main draw round of 64 at 10 a.m. He joins Cooper Williams, Pedro Rodenas and Gerard Planelles Ripoll in the main draw.
Planelles Ripoll will hit the court first Wednesday at 9 a.m., where he will take on Ryan Colby of Georgia. Williams will face Noah Zamora (Univ. California, Irvine) Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., while Rodenas will compete against Jaden Weekes (Kentucky) Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
In qualifying doubles action, Landau and Andreja Petrovic tallied a 7-5, 6-4 win over their Georgia opponents (Oscar Pinto Sansano/Miguel Perez Pena) to advance to the round of 16. The Blue Devil duo then withdrew due to injury.
Despite falling in the round of 32, Planelles Ripoll and Rodenas defeated Oscar Pinto Sansano/Miguel Perez Pena (Georgia) in the round of 16 consolation bracket.
Competition will continue Wednesday with the main draw.
