Carl Emil Overbeck plays in the singles and doubles main draws starting Wednesday in Tulsa.

TULSA, Okla. – California men’s tennis senior Carl Emil Overbeck continued his strong start to the season when he won Tuesday to advance to the singles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships at the Case Tennis Center. The Dane, ranked 56th in the ITA singles poll, defeated North Carolina State’s 90th-ranked Martin Borisiouk 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 in the second round of qualifying to move onto Wednesday’s main draw.

Overbeck will join first-year Golden Bear Theo Dean – a graduate transfer from Yale – in the main draw. On Wednesday at 6 a.m. PT, the 44th-ranked Dean will play Michigan State’s top-seeded and top-ranked Ozan Baris. The Bears last faced Baris when Overbeck defeated the Spartan 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinal round of the Battle in the Bay Classic on Sept. 13 in San Francisco, as Overbeck forged his way to the singles title. In Tulsa, Overbeck plays Wake Forest’s 26th-ranked Dhakshineswar Suresh in the first round at 9:30 a.m. PT.

Dean and Overbeck will also compete in the ITA All-American doubles main draw – along with the senior Cal pair of Mikey Wright and Alex Chang – starting Wednesday. The 13th-ranked Chang and Wright play Texas Tech’s sixth-seeded and seventh-ranked Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak at 1:30 p.m. PT. The 25th-ranked Overbeck and Dean – who won the doubles crown at the Battle in the Bay Classic in their first tournament as teammates – take on Baylor’s Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Marko Miladinovic on Wednesday at 3 p.m. PT.

The ITA All-American Championships end Sunday.
