The Nebraska men’s tennis team (6-3, 0-0 Big Ten) is headed to Euegene, Ore., to take on the Ducks (7-2, 0-0 Pac 12) on Feb. 17. The dual will be held at UO’s Student Tennis Center at 1 p.m. (CT). Scouting Oregon (7-2, 0-0 Pac 12)/Series History:
– The Ducks have started the season with a 7-2 mark and ended the 2022-23 season ranked No. 48 by ITA.
– OU’s Quinn Vandecasteele is ranked #93 in the Feb. 7 ITA Singles Rankings, as well as doubles duo Vandecasteele/Matthew Burton ranked #31 in the Feb. 7 ITA Doubles Rankings.
– Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander is in his 18th season with the Ducks, with an all-time coaching record of 243-272 (.587).
– Series History: 2-5 UO; Since their first matchup in 2009, NU has gone 2-5 against Oregon, with its last win against the Ducks in 2010.
The Huskers have a 6-3 record so far on the 2023-24 season, the best start for the team since 2018. The Big Red are coming off a 4-0 win against Gonzaga in their first all-time matchup. Shepp improved to 8-1, Sysoev to 3-0 and Christiansen to 3-2 in spring singles. With Johann and Mueller’s win on Court Two, Mueller, and the No. 2 doubles slot, improved to 7-2 in the spring.
Junior Anton Shepp was ranked on Feb. 7 by ITA, at No. 113 with his now 10-3 record and upset win over Alabama’s #51 Enzo Aguiard. The last Husker to be nationally ranked in singles was Roni Hietaranta, reaching No. 75 in the 2022-23 season. The Huskers also started the spring season with two-straight Big Ten honors. Shepp was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 17 and Calvin Mueller on Jan. 24. Both Shepp and Mueller were recognized for their perfect 4-0 weeks and straight-set victories.
